(CHICAGO, IL, May 5, 2009) - Arroweye just completed a month long art supply drive in partnership with Creative Pitch benefiting three under-funded Chicago area schools and art programs. We had overwhelming participation from the Chicago team and as a result, we were able to assemble large donations of beautiful used art supplies and scrap materials for our partner schools: Burr Elementary School, The Center for Global Citizenship, and Casa Central.
Our team members proactively reached out to their own communities to collect fantastic donations from spools of yarn to used house paint, foam core and watercolor paper to popsicle sticks. It was fun to watch the donations pour in and to hear stories of generosity and willingness to serve. At the end of our drive, we broke up into groups and assembled kits for each of the three schools from the surplus of supplies. These teams then delivered the donations to the children and art teachers at each partner school.
Our hosts at each school introduced us to their programs, shared their stories, and allowed us to see first-hand how our supplies would be used in their classrooms. Each Arroweye group came back with a multitude of tales about the kids and their heroic teachers and how they spent the morning playing dress-up with kindergartners, helping students glue beads on pipe-cleaner creations, and experiencing the inner-workings of a school that prides itself in green living, learning and global awareness.
Arroweye is proud to be the first company to conduct this type of corporate hands-on program with Creative Pitch. Creative Pitch is a not-for-profit program that gathers unused and unwanted art materials from the Chicago business and design community and makes those materials available, free of charge, to art teachers working with our poorest students. The program has been running for 3 years and has supported over 75 schools and tens of thousands of students in Chicago.
In addition to the supplies that our team members collected from their communities, Arroweye also donated five pallets of paper and four printers to other schools in need. We were thrilled that we could give this type of donation and know that the materials will be put to good use and serve a good cause. We will continue to collect materials and donate them to Creative Pitch to support their mission and look forward to other opportunities to build relationships with these classrooms and give back to our community.
